TOMS RIVER – An Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Academy will be starting in High School North, but it will be offered to students from all three high schools.
In partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense, the program teaches citizenship, character education, leadership, teamwork, discipline, and career skills.
The first year focuses on physical fitness, flag etiquette, marching ceremonies, and introductions to topics that will be expanded upon in future years, such as community service and leadership. There are up to four years. Students can take as many years as they choose. There is no obligation to join the military after.
An informational session will be held on June 6 at 5 p.m. in North’s media center. Parking should be near door 37.
