TOMS RIVER – SUEZ reminds its residential and business customers about the importance of finding and repairing water leaks as well as taking simple steps to reduce unnecessary water loss during Fix-A-Leak Week–March 14 through March 20, 2022.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) annual campaign is a reminder to check plumbing fixtures inside and outside of homes and commercial properties in order to reduce water loss through leaky faucets, valves and water pipes that can lead to costly water bills.
“Although this week-long event is a reminder to help protect our Earth’s most precious resource, everyone can find and fix leaks inside and outside to save valuable water and money throughout the year,” said Jim Mastrokalos, Director of Operations. “WaterSense, a voluntary partnership program sponsored by the EPA, is a valuable resource that our customers can use in saving water with water-efficient products, he added.
Mastrokalos said that customers can follow a few simple steps to find and fix leaks in homes and businesses:
- Check toilets for leaks by placing a few drops of food coloring into the tank then waiting a few minutes to see if color appears in the bowl prior to flushing. If there is color, there is a leak.
- Twist on a new WaterSense-labeled faucet aerator or showerhead and tighten hose and pipe connections.
- Replace fixtures if necessary with WaterSense-labeled models which are independently certified to use less water and perform as well or better than standard models.
“SUEZ is committed to helping reduce water loss in its service areas by continually investing significant capital to upgrade water pipes, pumps, treatment and storage facilities,” Mastrokalos said. “Reducing water leaks and conserving water will help ensure adequate water supplies for years to come,” he added.
The EPA estimates that minor water leaks account for more than 1 trillion gallons of water wasted each year in U.S. homes, and 10 percent of homes have leaks that waste over 90 million gallons of water per day.
